National Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) is the period from September 15 to October 15 in the United States, when people recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate the group’s heritage and culture. Hispanic Heritage Week was first proclaimed President Lyndon Johnson in 1968.

During National Hispanic Heritage Month, communities celebrate the achievements and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans with community festivals, government-sponsored activities and educational activities for students.

Idaho Central Credit Union is excited to be sponsoring some activities during National Hispanic Heritage Month.  We invite you to stop by and see us at these great events and help us celebrate.

Latina Health Symposium – September 22, Nampa

This event is a unique opportunity for clinicians, public health professionals, community workers and individuals to come together, learn, and discuss health related topics that impact Latina Health. Their vision is to share ideas on culturally competent health care delivery and increase awareness of public health issues that affect the Latina community.

Hispanic Youth Leadership Summit – October 14, Boise

This event has been held in the Treasure Valley for the last 10 years. The summit attracts leaders from schools to celebrate our heritage and further empower our communities. The Commission’s summit is the largest gathering of Hispanics in the state of Idaho. The summit brings participants together to develop and/or strengthen their leadership skills, and enhance their interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Participants will hear from prominent quality speakers and workshop presenters who are highly interactive and experts in their field.

Latino Expo – October 15, Nampa

This event showcases Latino products, foods and, most of all, local Hispanic business owners and non-profits. There will be displays of Hispanic culture and products. A portion of the funds raised will go to the Hispanic Cultural Center. Other activities include tamale and tortilla workshops, salsa and flamingo dancing, mariachi, Hispanic women’s workshops and a piñata making contest.
