10 Best Sedans Under $25K

April 28, 2015

Close up shot of multiple cars on a car lot.

The people at the Kelley Blue Book vehicle valuation site have come up with another “best vehicle” list – and this one will hold interest for a lot of car buyers. Their 10 Best Sedans Under $25K covers a very popular range of cars, at price levels that a wide range of buyers can afford.

One thing that strikes us immediately, though, is that cars like the Nissan Altima and the Honda Civic are now included in “under $25k” lists. You should be able to find well-equipped models of these cars for way under $25k. Here are KBB’s picks:

Subaru Impreza

KBB points out that the Impreza is the least expensive car you can buy with all-wheel drive. For performance, buyers can pick the WRX and STI models, while the base model offers practicality along with Subaru’s legendary reliability.

Chrysler 200

If your memories of the mid-size Mopars take you back to the uninspiring offerings of years past, you may want to take a look at the all-new Chrysler 200. This is an impressive car from all aspects, and KBB praised the 200’s for its quiet, smooth ride.

Nissan Altima

A perennial best-seller for Nissan, the Altima has always ticked the boxes (ride, size, handling) in the “decent” category. KBB likes the 2015 Altima for its comfortable front seats and great fuel economy.

Subaru Legacy

This is another nameplate that speaks to quality and good, all-around manners. The Subaru legacy has been thoroughly revamped for 2015, and KBB notes that the new model get better mileage (up to 36 highway mpg) and has upgraded levels of comfort. If you live in a snowy clime, the standard all-wheel drive will come in handy.

Ford Fusion

KBB says that the Fusion’s gorgeous looks are matched by a sporty nature, and a good deal of practicality. It has a spacious trunk and room for five actual adult-sized humans. You can also choose from two different hybrid options.

Mazda 3

A relatively new model on the scene, the Mazda 3 was an instant hit with those who value a car with a sporty personality. KBB finds that the fun-to-drive factor of the Mazda 3 is very much in evidence in the 2015 model, while the looks and efficiency make it a practical choice as well. Give it a look if you’re shopping list includes the Honda Civic or the Toyota Corolla. The Mazda 3 compares well, and it’s more sporty.

Honda Civic

KBB says that the 2015 Civic model offers, “…a pleasant ride, smooth, responsive steering, a well-designed interior, excellent fuel economy and one of the most varied product lines available.” There’s a Civic for just about everybody, in other words.

Toyota Camry

If you choose the Camry you’ll have the top-selling car in its segment. There are long-standing reasons for this in terms of reliability and resale value. The 2015 model comes with a new look, but the same old virtues.

Hyundai Sonata

Another all-new model this year is the Sonata. Once a lower-cost alternative to its Japanese competition, Hyundai is now gunning for class leaders like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry – and KBB finds that the Korean carmaker has done a good job of it. This year’s model comes with a 7-speed automatic transmission and a high-quality interior.

Honda Accord

When it came out in the mid-1970s, car buyers were amazed by the Accord’s mix of space, efficiency and pleasant road manners. While today’s Accord is bigger, safer and faster than its forebears, the qualities that made it an instant hit are still there in abundance. This is another car that you can’t go wrong with.
